The area features many Metro ParksLower Huron Park is a 1,258-acre park along the Huron River which features a beautiful Par-3 golf course,(where I've been known to golf in a pouring down rainstorm), a swimming pool with a waterslide, hike-bike trails(great) and self-guided nature trails. Ice skating ponds in the winter. We don't do winter. Willow Metro Park includes a beautiful 18-hole golf course, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a skatepark, a 17-acre pond, a hike-bike trail (which you may see us on), a disc golf course, a tot lot and groomed cross country ski trails. The paved hike-bike trail, a little over four miles in length, connects to Willow and Oakwoods Metroparks for a longer, 30-mile round trip. This is where Don and I walk. We did happen to meet one of our clients on the trail the other day. Come join us. Oakwoods Metro Park has wooded nature trails and picturesque views of the Huron River. There is a Nature Center with many animals alive and stuffed for viewing. Don and I have sat by their fireplace and watched the birds feed outside. I know you are saying "get a life", but it is enjoyable and we don't have time to do it often. At the Huron-Clinton web site you can view slide shows of each park and get driving directions to each park. www.metroparks.com |

Camping can be found nearbyIf you are looking for camping or the Deckers on a warm sunny weekend, try Sterling State Park. The Park has been updated to include 100 amp electrical and water on camping sites and have a lot of full service sites. The bathrooms are all new. Some of the sites have unobstructed views of Lake Erie. This was our view out our campers back window. Although they have quite a long beach area, I don't really like the swimming there, but I may be "picky", because there are usually people in the water. The hiking trail is very nice and there is a walking/biking trail through the park. For those anglers out there, the area is known for its Walleye. To view pictures and information about the park go to this web site: www.michigandnr.com Another nearby camping park is Harbourtown, in Monroe. It is a private RV Resort with a pool, a next door golf course and on the other side is mini golf, batting cages, race cars and arcade. www.harbortownrv.com If you like to camp in a little more outdoors atmosphere, but still want to stay near, you could also camp at the Greenfield KOA, near Belleville. There is a small lake for swimming, fishing or a hike around. www.koa.com To search for a campground in Michigan you can search here www.michcampgrounds.com |
Yacht Clubs and Marina'sThe Wyandotte Yacht Club has been a favorite of our family for many years. Don's parents were involved there for many years, as a matter of fact Don's Dad was a past commodore there. They kept their boat there and we have enjoyed many fun times aboard. Marina's can be located at www.boatingus.com or also at www.charternet.com Wyandotte www.pier500.com |
Good Food and DiningWhen it comes to food, Don is the expert. Our personal favorite is the Mexican Village where we went on our first date. www.mexicanvillagefood.com Another of our favorites is Leonardo's Restaurante on Merriman in Romulus. For Italian that is superb, this is the place. We absolutely love La Shish in Dearborn, but don't go there anymore. There is a closer restaurant with food just about as good in Taylor at Goddard and Pelham, its called Malek Al Kabob's. It's small, but great food. We have found the Trenton Grand in Old Trenton on Jefferson very nice. We went there for our anniversary on a Friday evening, the food was excellent and they had equally excellent entertainment. From here on I'm just going to list some Downriver restaurants and their location. I will try to include a variety of foods and cities. For Hungarian the Rhapsody in Southgate is on Northline, just west a few blocks from Dix. For scenic views and great food try Portifino's in Wyandotte just south of Eureka on Biddle. www.portofinoontheriver.com or also try The Belleville Grill in Downtown Belleville. It's on the water with great views. Another Italian restaurant with great food is Moro's on Allen Rd. in Allen Park. It is located just south of Southfield. Classy Place. For lovely quaint restaurants try the Waltz Inn in the Village of Waltz on Waltz Rd. Or try the Pickle Barrel in the Village of Willis on Willis Rd. They have deep fried pickle chips and sweet potato fries that may not be healthy, but taste great. Kate's Kitchen on Huron River Dr. in Flat Rock is the place to enjoy breakfast or lunch. You can also take home a variety of pastries. Buddy's Pizza (voted Detroit's #1 square deep dish pizza) and the Mongolian Barbeque are both on Michigan Ave. in Dearborn. www.buddyspizza.com www.bdsmongolianbarbeque.com A casual fish restaurant is Fergie's Fish on Fort St. in Lincoln Park. Don love's their fish special and they make REAL french fries. A past Client of ours owns Poncho's Mexican Restaurants. They have four locations now. The original is on Dix in Lincoln Park, just south of Outer Drive. There is also one on Jefferson in Wyandotte and another on King in Riverview and their latest addition on Goddard just west of Allen in Taylor. Try Them!!! We have and the food's great. |
The Ambassador BridgeThe Ambassador Bridge has almost 21,000 tons of steel and rises 152 feet above the Detroit River connecting the United States with Canada. Its 1,850-foot center span made it the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time it was built. Its total length was 7,490 feet. The twin silicon steel towers were built on concrete piers resting on bedrock 115 feet below the surface. To learn more about this great international connection go to: www.ambassadorbridge.com |
